This research area focuses on the core topics of German Linguistics, namely the study and description of the structures of the German Language, the conditions under which it is used, and the changes it undergoes. These topics are aimed, on the one hand, at advancing linguistic knowledge and, on the other, at application in numerous academic and non-academic fields in which the German Language is relevant.
Our main areas of research focus on the variation and linguistic change in the grammatical and lexical structures of German, and on the interrelationships and expressions of language and gender (gender linguistics).
Current research focuses on verbal constructions and their arguments, grammatical paradigms, complex sentence structures with causal functions, the forms and possibilities of gender-neutral language in German, the current social debate on gender-neutral language, and the analysis of language use by women and men in academic texts.
