The German Linguistics research group focuses on two areas:
Pragmatics and Experimental Linguistics
These two areas characterise the What and the How of our research. Thematically, we focus on pragmatic issues, i.e., we investigate the interpretation and use of language in context. Our methodological focus is experimentation, i.e., we investigate linguistic theories by testing predictions in experimental studies.
Our research is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach. We combine pragmatic research perspectives with semantic and psycholinguistic perspectives, and link research into meaning representations with research on non-linguistic cognition.
In our teaching, we combine psycholinguistic, pragmatic and semantic foundations with applied topics such as linguistic comprehensibility and pragmatic phenomena in areas such as education, advertising or politics.
