What is the Student Council and what does it do?

The German & Performing Arts Student Council is elected by the student body – comprising all students at the Department of German Studies. The elected members act as the university-level representatives of all students enrolled on a degree programme offered by the Department of German Studies; in addition to their involvement in university policy, they serve as the permanent points of contact for study-related questions and issues.

What activities does it organise?

The German & Performing Arts Student Council organises the orientation week for first-year students (first-year welcome, timetable guidance, treasure hunt) as well as other events for students in all years (Christmas party, table quiz, games evenings, etc.). During the lecture term, an open consultation hour is held on Wednesdays from 3 pm to 5 pm in Room 134, which anyone can attend with study-related questions or problems. All students are also warmly invited to get in touch with their subject council at any time via email or through the Instagram account.

How can I get involved?

Participation is generally open to all students on the following degree programmes (students on the DEL Master’s programme are represented by the English Departmental Council):

What opportunities are available to me on the Departmental Council?

Getting involved in the Faculty Council offers an (active) insight into university policy, the chance to volunteer to support fellow students and to organise events. You can take on various roles – for example, in public relations – (new elections and the reconstitution of the Faculty Council usually take place at the start of the summer term). However, taking on a role is not a prerequisite. What’s more, getting involved in the Faculty Council is a great way to make new friends and meet some brilliant people.
