The subject-specific teaching placement is carried out over a period of five weeks in each of the teacher-training Master’s programmes.
Prior to the placement, students must attend a course entitled ‘Preparation for the Subject-Specific Teaching Placement’. This course provides direct preparation for teaching German. Students acquire a solid and structured understanding of subject-specific teaching methodologies and structuring approaches, enabling them to defend these positions with justification and to develop teaching objectives.
Through their experiences during the school placement, students gain an initial insight into the demands of the teaching profession. Students are able to acquire specific fundamental knowledge and skills in the planning, delivery and evaluation of subject-specific teaching. They learn about the potential of German language teaching when dealing with diverse learning groups, in the application of methods and the use of materials, media and texts. Furthermore, the ability to reflect on teaching and learning processes is deepened.
The alternative option ‘specialist work placement without a school-based practical phase’ expired on 30 September 2021 and is therefore now only available in justified cases of hardship.
